Biodiversity Sanctuaries
As we are increasingly facing threats as we cross planetary boundaries, our team at ERAS is dedicated to making as many caches as possible around the world that serve as seed banks, refuges, and biodiversity sanctuaries, where we can still appreciate and nourish the life that sustains our planet. We do this by planting phytoguilds to build the seed bank, increasing habitat for endangered and threatened species, promoting an active and engaged group of citizen scientists for continuous monitoring and maintenance, and anticipating climatic shifts through assisting migration of species to areas of higher viability.

At each of our sites we try to create a microcosm of the surrounding bioregions diversity so that we have a miniature sample, even in a 1/4 acre, or the diversity of plants, microbiomes, habitat patterns, and environmental disturbances that characterize the region.

Phytoguilds of plant families and habitat families
Much like we as humans have certain others that we naturally gravitate to for friendships and families, so do plants in their creation of community. Our job thenceforth is to recognize these patterns of relations in phytoguilds and the habitat that they belong to. By planting and nurturing families of plants, we have a higher success rate then introducing individuals.
